Artist's Statement

   I strive to make overtly handmade functional ceramic works.  I very consciously make  my work with an economy of motion.  By minimizing contact with the clay, I make each move deliberate.  Aside from the work being handmade, I enjoy finding glaze and clay materials and crafting tools. I collect ashes from my fire pit for the ash glazes I use, and often find and process clay locally.  Understanding the materials I use and controlling the different aspects of making my work is vitally important to the overall quality and aesthetic I am able to achieve.
